Galaxies - The Milky
Way Here we see my interpretation of our own Milky
Way. The spiral arms consist of newly formed stars
stretching out from the yellow bulge that surrounds the nucleus which
is 26,000 light years away from Earth. The overall diameter of the
Milky Way is 100,000 light years. I have indicated the presence of
a central bar which is believed to exist, though the Solar System's
position within one of the spiral arms makes it hard to be sure of
this.
