Into the Future - the fate of our Sun, a Red Giant
Five billion years from now, the red-giant Sun will have expanded to such a size that the inner planets Mercury and Venus will be subsumed, and Earth will suffer a fiery death. The sun will be around 2,000 times more luminous and about 100 times larger than it is now.
