Stars and Planets - the Formation of the Solar System
Material left over from the formation of the Sun makes up a disk around the young star, whose powerful jets are clearly visible. Small rocky stars planets form close to the star, whereas hydrogen and other light gases are driven away by the stellar wind. As large bodies begin to form in the disk, collisions occur.
